Good Food and Giving Back
•I just love recipes. I follow chefs and cooks on social media and file them into a saved folder. When I’m at someone’s home and they serve something incredible, I’m always asking for the recipe. No shade to store-bought but there is something about food made at home.
Last week I was thinking about some soup a brought me years ago when I had Covid. Yes, I’ve been thinking about this soup for like five years. I asked her about it and she remembered – Sweet Potato soup. It is creamy seasoned with Rosemary and Maple syrup – it warms you from the inside out. She dug it out for me and then brought me 6 more recipes because she loves them. How wonderful is that?
Bringing food to someone is my love language. I’m not good at sitting and being but if I can go to the store and bring something delicious that heals, saves a busy person some time or feeds tired parents to a newborn, I’m in.
This has all come to a head at the same time foodbanks are desperate for donations. We have clients and GV staff that volunteer for several food pantries all over our city and the numbers of recipients are going up every day. The government shutdown has gone from a ripple of need to a wave. Even when things get back opened, the need will not go away. There will still be families to support and restocking the shelves to go forward.
GrandView makes it a priority to give back to our community. And while we cannot ignore the commitments we have for November (United Ability and Alzheimer’s of Central Alabama), we have been supporting food banks and helping cover cost of living for people through a third-party. While GrandView isn’t hosting a food drive, I thought I’d list a couple of places to donate:
